Overview

Omarchy Desktop is a personal, single-user desktop application made of two parts: a calendar widget and a mail client. It runs on its owner's computer and connects only to that person's own Google account. The operator runs no server for it. Both parts talk directly to Google's APIs from the computer they are installed on.

Google data the app accesses

With the owner's consent through Google OAuth, the app requests these scopes.

Calendar widget

• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.readonly: reads the list of calendars and their events, including titles, times, locations, descriptions, attendees and their responses, video-conferencing links and colours.
• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events: creates, updates and deletes events, only when the owner does so explicitly in the widget.

Mail client

• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.modify: reads messages, threads, attachments and labels, and changes them when the owner acts. This covers marking messages read, applying labels, archiving, moving to trash and reporting spam. It does not permanently delete mail.
• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.send: sends messages the owner writes, replies to or forwards.
• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events: shows events, answers meeting invitations, and creates or edits events when the owner does so explicitly.
• https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.calendarlist.readonly: lists the account's calendars so the right one can be shown.

The app does not request access to contacts, Google Drive or any other Google data.

How the data is used

• To show calendars, events and mail on the owner's desktop, and to search mail.
• To carry out actions the owner takes: sending, replying, labelling, archiving, trashing, reporting spam, answering invitations and editing events.
• To show desktop notifications for new mail and upcoming events on the owner's own screen.
• To suggest guests when creating an event, using attendees of events the app has already fetched.
• To unsubscribe from a mailing list when the owner asks, using the unsubscribe link or address the sender provided.

Google data is used only to provide these features to the owner. It is not used for advertising, analytics or profiling. The app does not use it to develop, improve or train generalized AI or machine-learning models.

AI assistance

The mail client has an optional AI assistant. When the owner explicitly invokes it, the app sends the content of the selected messages (at most 20) to the AI service the owner has configured on their computer, currently Anthropic's Claude through its command-line client. It is used only to answer that request, for example summarising, translating or drafting a reply. This also applies to the optional "suggest calendar events" setting, which is off by default: when the owner turns it on, a message from a person that mentions a date or time is sent to the same AI service once, when opened. Nothing is sent to an AI service unless the owner uses one of these features.

Storage and retention

All data stays on the owner's computer:

• Calendar events are saved to a local file, refreshed about every five minutes. Each refresh replaces the file with a limited window of events around the current date.
• Mail is cached in a local cache directory so it can be shown quickly. Drafts are kept locally until they are sent or discarded.
• OAuth tokens and credentials are stored in the operating system's keyring or in local configuration directories that only the owner's user account can read.

No Google data is uploaded to, stored on, or copied to any other server. The only exception is the AI assistance described above, at the owner's request.

Sharing

Google data is not sold, shared or transferred to any third party. The exceptions are the owner-initiated AI requests described above and where the law requires it. Mail the owner sends goes to the recipients the owner chooses.

Limited Use

Omarchy Desktop's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Revoking access and deleting data

Access can be revoked at any time from the Google Account permissions page. Signing out of the mail client removes its keyring entry. Deleting the app's local cache, configuration directories and events file removes every copy of the data it holds.

This website

This site is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The hosting provider, Cloudflare, may keep standard request logs such as IP addresses to operate and secure the service.

Changes

Any change to this policy will be published on this page with a new effective date.
